Allander Leisure Centre

The all new state of the art Allander Leisure Centre and Adult Day Care Facility was built by East Dunbartonshire Council due to having two ageing facilities that were no longer fit for purpose. It's purpose was to connect sport and culture and create a space for opportunities for those with learning and physical disabilities, and the wider community. The roof was made up of various levels spanning over approx. 5,500m2. We installed a Sika single ply roof system along with some areas of felt systems and were able to offer the client a 25 year manufactures guarantee. Our package installed a Eurobond Europanel F5 Wall Cladding system and SoTech Optima FC panels.

Due to the height of the building and the wind uplift it would create, we limited the number of fixings in order to achieve the targeted U-Value. One of the roofs was directly above a swimming pool giving a high humidity classification reading of 5 and therefore used stainless steel fasteners to prevent corrosion. A huge element of the design was centered around the pool area. We had to ensure we used materials that were compliant and could withstand the high temperatures and steam that would be produced. We followed the architect’s specification and included an aluminium deck on this area that we subsequently fixed onto. Some sections of the roof were going to be used to store plant so we used the Sikashield membrane, a robust product that would cope with foot traffic and to withstand the heavy plant and machinery the roof would be loaded with. We designed and installed Sika Sarnatred on the project to create a walkway on the roof around the PV panels that were installed by others. A lot of the design complexities came around the wall cladding that we installed, one main feature was the translucent panels that came from an international supplier on one of the highest elevations to allow light into the centre. We also had to install and cut the lowest cladding panels at ground levels in such a way that young children wouldn’t get access to the underside.

Allander Leisure Centre was an extremely busy site with lots of trades working in conjunction with each other all whilst the existing leisure centre building remained open next door, which naturally brought a lot of traffic and pedestrians. We had three full time contract managers stationed at the site to oversee operations, manage labour and ensure all necessary paperwork and health & safety was being adhered to. We had a large labour resource on site which had to be carefully managed as Procladd were required to be flexible and accommodate programme changes and work within weather limitations.
