As part of North Lanarkshire Council’s estate development programme, their ambition was to fully integrate town and community hubs in locations throughout North Lanarkshire, to maximise the use of their assets. The new build construction of Riverbank Community Hub comprises of both Carnbroe Primary School, Sikeside Primary School and an Early Years Facility. The building accommodates 434 primary pupils and 50 nursery pupils along with bookable community spaces such as meeting rooms and football pitches. Procladd were instructed to carry out the installation of both the roof and wall cladding systems. Our roofing works consisted of a Euroclad Euroseam 75/400 stucco mill finish built up system and features Velux rooflights. The wall construction was completed with Sinusoidal Half Round Profile Sheet, in an Ephyra finish. We also installed large soffit planks to the east and west elevations, capping’s to all four elevations and the feature flashings to the front and rear entrances with a RAL 7034 fine textured finish.
Across the trapezium shaped building we were required to install an area in the centre that had an acoustic roof with sound proofing properties to help with the gym hall that was located directly below, the remaining areas were of a standard build up. There were also non-insulated parts of the roof due to them being outside the footprint of the building.
One difficult challenge we had to overcome was the client’s wish for a seamless roof that was the length of the building, we worked with Euroclad to plan a 74m long continuous standing seam sheet rolled at roof level from eaves to ridge installation. We had to ensure each roof section had little to zero tolerance in the build up of the framing to ensure the sheets met and engaged on each side. Specific expansion detailing was designed, and we installed from a central fixing point as there was some structural openings left to cater for the lifecycle of the building, to allow for some expansion and contraction up the roof to the ridge and down to the eaves.
The land Riverbank Community Campus was built on was originally a very steep sloped site that the main contractor had to work on to level out. The building structure was designed with this in mind, and it wasn’t 100% level therefore the cladding and surrounding grounds were all adapted to suit. The ground it was built on had an existing mine shaft which was removed, and the contaminated grounds required stabilisation.
